Kim was joined int the stands by several senior officials, including the country’s nominal head of state, Kim Yong Nam, who will lead a high-level delegation to the South Korea Olympics on Friday that will also include leader Kim’s sister, Kim Yo Jong.Kim Jong Un didn’t make any comments about the Olympics in the parts of his speech that were broadcast. The coverage of the parade seemed heavily edited.North Korea had said it would hold a big event to mark the 70th anniversary of the founding of its military. Feb. 8 has been seen as a less important founding anniversary but made something of a comeback in 2015 and was elevated further this year in part because it is the 70th — a nice round number. The parade also featured tanks, armored vehicles, jets flying over the square in formation to make a “70,” and thousands of people dressed in red, white and yellow creating the letters “Kim Jong Un” in Korean and the ruling Workers’ Party’s symbol of the brush, hammer and sickle. The North also rolled out what appeared to be a Hwasong-12 intermediate range missile, which it flew over Japan twice last year as it stepped up the aggressiveness of its weapons tests. In this image taken from video footage, North Korean military personnel salute as they lay flowers in front of giant statues of Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il on Mansu Hill in central Pyongyang, Thursday, Feb. 8, 2018. (AP Photo)The Olympics probably were also a big factor in North Korea’s decision to hold the parade.ADVERTISEMENT It began with thousands of goose-stepping troops lined up in Kim Il Sung Square to form words and slogans. Later, North Korea displayed its most powerful strategic weapons, including what appeared to be Hwasong-14 and Hwasong-15 ICBMs rolled out on launcher trucks. Analysts believe the missiles, which were successfully tested last year in three launches, could potentially reach deep into the U.S. mainland when perfected.Virtually all foreign media were excluded from the event.FEATURED STORIESSPORTSWATCH: Drones light up sky in final leg of SEA Games torch runSPORTSLillard, Anthony lead Blazers over ThunderSPORTSMalditas save PH from shutoutIn a televised speech, Kim said the parade marks North Korea’s emergence as a “global military power” despite facing the “worst sanctions.”He called for his military to maintain a high level of combat readiness against the United States and its “followers” so that “invasive forces cannot infringe upon or harass the republic’s sacred dignity and autonomy even by 0.001 millimeters.” Read Next LATEST STORIES View comments AFP official booed out of forum In this image made from video released by KRT on Feb. 8, 2018, North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, right, inspects honor guards, along with his wife Ri Sol Ju, center, during a military parade in Pyongyang, Thursday, Feb. 8 2018. Kim Jong Un has gone out of his way to make sure the North will hold attention throughout the games.Following a last-minute proposal during Kim’s annual New Year’s address, North Korea is sending 22 athletes to compete in the Olympics and a delegation of more than 400 musicians, singers, martial artists and members of a cheering group to the games.Kim is also dispatching his younger sister, Kim Yo Jong, to attend the opening ceremony. That in itself is a major development — she is one of his closest confidants, holds a senior party position and her trip would mark the first time any member of the ruling Kim family has visited the South since the Korean War. She will meet South Korean President Moon Jae-in at a luncheon, Moon’s spokesman said Thursday. The North’s conciliatory moves related to the Olympics have generally been welcomed in the South. The parade, however, was seen as more sensitive.Though possibly best known for their legions of goose-stepping troops, North Korean military parades are the country’s primary means of showing off its most recent advances in military technology — sometimes with aspirational mock-ups.The North unveiled five new kinds of missiles at its most recent major military parade last April. Brooks Koepka handles the stress and reaps rewards of another major

This is definitely the most satisfying of all the ones I’ve won.”Moments earlier, after he turned a potential meltdown into the kind of clutch play that has defined his career, Koepka draped his muscular arms around the top of the trophy and let out a deep sigh from stress and satisfaction, and then he smiled. Private companies step in to help SEA Games hosting Koepka said at the start of the week that majors are sometimes the easiest to win. This one should have been.It wasn’t.His seven-shot lead was down to one with four holes to play and the No. 1 player in the world — Dustin Johnson, his best friend in golf — was piecing together the best round of a final day in 25 mph gusts that made Bethpage Black as fearsome as ever.Koepka answered with all the right shots. Johnson faded with two bogeys. Koepka closed with a 4-over 74, the highest final round by a PGA champion in 15 years, and he didn’t care how it looked.ADVERTISEMENT Brooks Koepka reacts after winning the PGA Championship golf tournament, Sunday, May 19, 2019, at Bethpage Black in Farmingdale, N.Y. (AP Photo/Seth Wenig)FARMINGDALE, N.Y. — Brooks Koepka should know as well as anyone that nothing in golf comes easily. His well-documented journey to the PGA Tour took him to remote outposts like Kenya and Kazakhstan. Even after Koepka won a second straight U.S. Open last summer, which no one had done in 29 years, it didn’t seem enough to be the first name mentioned among the next generation of stars.ADVERTISEMENT Trending Articles PLAY LIST 00:50Trending Articles00:50Trending Articles01:53WWII veteran celebrates 110th birthday in New Orleans02:42PH underwater hockey team aims to make waves in SEA Games01:44Philippines marks anniversary of massacre with calls for justice01:19Fire erupts in Barangay Tatalon in Quezon City01:07Trump talks impeachment while meeting NCAA athletes02:49World-class track facilities installed at NCC for SEA Games02:11Trump awards medals to Jon Voight, Alison Krauss And off he went — a powerful drive down the 15th fairway that set up a par he desperately need, an even better drive down the 16th hole, the hardest at Bethpage Black during the final round because the wind was whipping into his face. That’s where Johnson lost all momentum, without doing much wrong. He hit a 5-iron from 194 into the fan — he though about 4-iron because he wasn’t sure 5-iron would get to the green — and was stunned when it one-hopped into the rough. He chipped to 7 feet and missed the par putt, and then went long on the par-3 17th, caught another nasty lie and made another bogey.“I gave it a run,” Johnson said after his 69. “That’s all you can ask for.”It’s more than Koepka would have wanted. But he has the trophy, the one that caused the most stress and brought the most satisfaction. No sooner was the PGA Championship over that Koepka was installed as a 5-1 favorite to win the U.S. Open.No one has won three straight U.S. Open titles since Willie Anderson in 1905. That might be all the motivation Koepka needs. Two-day strike in Bicol fails to cripple transport His place in history was secure. He joined Tiger Woods as the only players to win back-to-back in the PGA Championship since it switched to stroke play in 1958. He became the only player to hold back-to-back titles in two majors at the same time.Four years ago, he had one PGA Tour title in his first full season as a full member. Now he has four majors out of the last eight he has played, a stretch not seen since Woods won seven out of 11 after capturing the 2002 U.S. Open at Bethpage Black.“I just don’t understand why he doesn’t do it more often,” said Rory McIlroy, who won his four majors in a span of 15. “He obviously gets into these mindsets of the majors, and he really goes and gets into a different state. You’d obviously have to ask him. But it’s awesome. It’s great to watch.”Woods twice won back to back in the PGA Championship, with tight battles in 1999 and 2000, comfortable wins in 2006 and 2007. Koepka was starting to draw comparisons with Woods for the way he obliterated the competition at Bethpage Black, much like Woods used to do.In the end, there were no style points, only the trophy. But that trophy spoke volumes.Even louder was the gallery, and it wasn’t always pretty. Koepka had a six-shot lead when he walked off the 11th fairway. When he walked up to the green on the par-3 14th, with his ball over the green and Koepka headed for a fourth straight bogey, the chants jarred him. They weren’t for him.“DJ! DJ! DJ!” the cheers rained down for Johnson, who was on his way to another birdie up ahead on the 15th hole to pull within one shot. Koepka says he was more shocked than he was nervous, but he heard them.“It’s New York. What do you expect when you’re half-choking it away,” he said. “I think I kind of deserved it. I’ve been to sporting events in New York. I know how it goes. I think it actually helped. It was at a perfect time because I was just thinking: ‘OK, I’ve got everybody against me. Hafnia Tankers BW Tankers Looking into Merger

first_imgzoomImage Courtesy: BW Group Denmark-based shipping company Hafnia Tankers is exploring the possibility of consolidation with BW Tankers, part of BW Group, Hafnia’s CEO Mikael Skov said announcing the company’s results for the second quarter of 2018.The merger is being explored on the back of BW Group’s acquisition of 36.3 pct stake in Hafnia Tankers back in July 2018, bringing the company’s total ownership stake in Hafnia to 43.5 pct.Carsten Mortensen, CEO of BW Group, said at the time that a further integration of BW Tankers and Hafnia tankers would be looked into. The merger, if closed, would create the second largest product tanker shipping company in the worl, with over a 100 product tankers in the combined fleet.Namely, BW Tankers owns and operates a fleet of 55 product tankers in the LR2, LR1 and MR segments, while Hafnia Tankers has a fleet of 47 product tankers in the LR1, MR and SR segments including newbuildings.Hafnia Tankers reported an operating profit for the six months ended June 30, 2018 of USD 2.6 million and a net loss of USD 12 million.“Overall, the positive trend of increasing demand for refined products, reduced supply of newbuild tonnage continues and regulatory changes on bunker fuel are believed to be a positive story for product tankers,” Skov said.“However, short-term demand has so far in 2018 not been able to fully keep pace with the last few years fleet expansion, but as oil product stocks worldwide have come down to 5 years average and even below, we foresee a stronger year end 2018 coming in to 2019 as trading will increase, also on the back of high refinery utilization.”last_img read more
