U2 Announces “The Joshua Tree” 30th Anniversary Tour Dates

first_imgAfter much speculation, rock icons U2 have revealed plans for a major tour celebrating the 30th anniversary of their hit 1987 album, Joshua Tree. The band has confirmed that they will be performing the album in its entirety throughout the tour, giving fans an opportunity to hear Joshua Tree live.According to guitarist The Edge, the decision to revive Joshua Tree was inspired by the modern political climate. In an interview with Rolling Stone, he says:“That record was written in the mid-Eighties, during the Reagan-Thatcher era of British and U.S. politics. It was a period when there was a lot of unrest. Thatcher was in the throes of trying to put down the miners’ strike; there was all kinds of shenanigans going on in Central America. It feels like we’re right back there in a way. I don’t think any of our work has ever come full circle to that extent. It just felt like, ‘Wow, these songs have a new meaning and a new resonance today that they didn’t have three years ago, four years ago.’”The tour runs from May 12th through August 1st, including performances at a number of major football stadiums across the US. The band has also confirmed their headlining set at Bonnaroo Music Festival, a full two days before Bonnaroo is set to reveal its lineup. In addition, they’ll be joined by some great bands throughout the tour, including Mumford & Sons, Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds, The Lumineers, and OneRepublic. The full schedule can be seen below, and tickets will be on sale by January 17th.
