Credit card case charges could expand

first_imgVALENCIA – Model Beverly Peele, accused of using stolen credit card numbers for $10,000 in purchases, could face additional charges, a prosecutor said Thursday. Charged with two counts of grand theft, Peele was in Santa Clarita Superior Court for a bail reduction hearing, but because she already had posted bond on $65,000 bail, her appearance was a formality. “We are reviewing the evidence and considering additional charges,” Deputy District Attorney Annette Peterson said Thursday, when Peele made an appearance with her attorney, Brian Oxman, in Santa Clarita Superior Court. A runway and magazine model for designers Ralph Lauren, Donna Karan, Prada and Versace, Peele was arrested Dec. 26, accused of making multiple purchases of furniture – including a refrigerator, washer and dryer, bedding and decorative items for her Saugus home – sheriff’s investigators said. The purchases totaled $10,000 and were made by using credit card numbers from a wallet deputies said Peele found in a local supermarket. An Orange County resident also was victimized when he used his credit card at the John Robert Powers Agency, which employs Peele, according to the sheriff’s report. During Thursday’s brief hearing, Peele sat in the gallery knitting a multicolor scarf. Judge Lloyd M. Nash directed Oxman to make sure Peele met with a probation officer before her next hearing. Peterson could not elaborate on the pending charges, but said they would be ready by Feb. 3, when Peele is scheduled to make her next court appearance.
