Boston University Wins 54 Million Alzheimers Grant

first_img BUSM photo via Wikimedia CommonsThe NIH’s National Institute on Aging has granted Boston University $5.4 million to continue studying Alzheimer’s disease and related conditions, including chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE).The three-year grant will allow researchers at the Boston University Alzheimer’s Disease Center (BU ADC) to learn more about diagnostic measures, early interventions, and genetic risks, while running clinical trials that will hopefully culminate in a successful treatment or cure. BU ADC also studies CTE and the toll Alzheimer’s takes on caregivers, in addition to serving as an educational resource for community members.“We are indebted to the NIH for their ongoing support,” BU ADC Director Neil Kowall says in a statement. “Their continued sponsorship has helped our researchers and clinicians undertake and further their research and educational mission by taking crucial steps forward to combat this disease.”BU ADC is one of only two NIH-funded Alzheimer’s research centers in Massachusetts, along with one run by Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School.
