7 tips to get you ready for CUNA GAC

first_img 2SHARESShareShareSharePrintMailGooglePinterestDiggRedditStumbleuponDeliciousBufferTumblr My first time at the CUNA Governmental Affairs Conference (GAC) was in 2000. On a break from exhibiting, a co-worker and I went to tour the White House, and while in line, watched Marine One – with President Clinton inside! – take off from the South Lawn. The CUNA GAC exhibit hall was in the basement of the Washington Hilton. There were printed summaries of the prior day’s activities to help you stay current. My have things changed! After attending this conference for twenty years as an exhibitor, I’m preparing for my first GAC as a CUNA employee. As VP of System Provider Relations, I oversee everything supplier-related, including the GAC exhibit hall. To run the largest exhibit hall at the largest conference in the credit union industry is so exciting to me. As I get ready to be on this side of things, I want to ensure that all exhibitors have a successful experience and to share some of the tips I’ve learned over the years:1.   Download the app! Everything you need to know about GAC can be found in the conference app. Exhibit hall hours, session information – you can even “request a meeting” with an attendee through the app. And make sure your notifications are turned on – it’s the fastest way to receive breaking news about the conference. continue reading »last_img read more

They were sloppy, so bad defensively. [Kieran] Tierney set the tone after a couple of minutes, caught on the ball, poor touches,’ Shearer said on Match of the Day.‘[Lucas] Torreira then got caught on the ball, Arsenal got away with it. Six players and the manager are moaning to the referee when Southampton score, they were too clever for them.‘David Luiz… by the time the ball is in the net he’s not even in the box, it’s too late, he’s switching off. Kieran Tierney gave away a penalty at the Emirates against the Saints (Picture: Getty Images)‘These mistakes are happening every single week trying to play out of the back but they’re not good enough to play out from the back, they keep giving chances away.‘I might get criticised for talking about fouling but what does [N’golo] Kante, Fabinho and Fernandinho do? ‘Parker Forged Signatures on US$800K Contracts’

‘Parker Forged Signatures on US$800K Contracts’

first_imgYesterday Blamo Koffa, the chief investigator of Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission (LACC), told a crowded courtroom that the former National Port Authority (NPA) managing director, Matilda Parker, allegedly forged signatures on contract documents she submitted during investigations about the disappearance of over US$837,957 at the National Port Authority.Mr. Koffa, who testified as the prosecution’s first witness at Criminal Court ‘C,’ further alleged that the act was uncovered during an investigation they held with people whose signatures appeared on documents, making reference to one Tom Kazulu, an employee of West Africa Dive Association (WADA).Parker, together with her comptroller, Madam Christiana Kpabar Paelay, are accused of duping the NPA of US$837,957 by awarding two contracts, one to remove wrecks from the Greenville Port in Sinoe County, and the other was to provide security consultancy. The prosecution claimed that the contract awarded to Mr. Deneah M. Flomo and his Demar Enterprise did not do the job.The defendants have meanwhile denied the allegation of wrongdoing, arguing that the company performed the work for which it was paid the amount of US$837,957.According to Kofa, the dismissed NPA manager allegedly presented a document which contained Kazulu’s signature, which claimed that, “Kazulu had completed his diving contract to verify whether or not Demar Enterprise actually took away ships or vessels left in the water at Greenville Port, in Sinoe County.”“Surprisingly, when our investigating team contacted Mr. Kazulu, he told us that he has never been hired by defendant Parker to perform said contract, and it was not his signature on the diving reports,” Koffa quoted Kazulu.“I never did any diving work at the Greenville Port to establish as to whether Demar Enterprise did the wrecking job for which it was contracted,” the LACC chief investigator quoted the investigation report allegedly held with Kazulu.Koffa also quoted Kazulu as saying, ‘‘I’m not educated and so how could I write such volumes of report.”Koffa said when his team also contacted the management of WADA, the institution allegedly said they have been working with the NPA for over 20 years, claiming that “all of our agreements have been done through the management, and not an individual, as the diving report showed.”The LACC chief investigator testified that information “reached my office alleging that there was a massive corruption at the Free Port of Monrovia.”He said after receiving the information they invited defendant Parker and her comptroller, Paelay, to submit contract documents bearing the signature of Tom Kazulu.According to the state witness, during the investigation they also discovered that defendant Parker did not follow the bidding process of the Public Procurement Concession Commission (PPCC) and the Liberia Maritime Authority (LMA) that is responsible to certificate companies involved in ship or vessel wrecking in the country.“We contacted those institutions and they claimed that they do not have any knowledge about the NPA awarding contract to and the existence of Demar Enterprise,” he said. The case continues.Share this:Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)last_img read more

Confident Sindhu says Chinese shuttlers are beatable

first_imgSaina Nehwal and P.V. Sindhu (right) are India’s best medal hopes at the Incheon Asian Games. The badminton world Championships in Copenhagen has given fresh boost to those trying to challenge the longstanding Chinese dominance in the sport, and India’s P.V. Sindhu will be eager to land a telling blow at the upcoming Incheon Asian Games. Despite boasting of the top three players in women’s singles, China failed to land the women’s singles title at the World Championships for the second year running with Ratchanok Intanon and now Carolina Marin claiming the honour. Though Sindhu will be disappointed at not improving on her bronze medal from Guangzhou 2013, she would be confident that the Chinese girls are far from unbeatable. Sindhu herself had beaten Li Xuerui on the latter’s home turf at the China Masters in 2012 just two months after the Chinese had won the gold medal at the London Olympics. This was not an isolated upset. Last year, as a rank outsider, Sindhu beat Wang Yihan, the then defending champion and another title favourite Wang Shix-ian at the World Championships.Last week too, she got the better of All England Champion Shixian against whom the Indian now enjoys a 4-2 head-to-head advantage. “The Chinese players are very good but they are beatable. I have never felt that they are in a totally different class. It is tough against them as there are so many of them but they can crack too,” Sindhu told MAIL TODAY.With two back-to-back bronze medals (Commonwealth Games and World Championships), Sindhu will be pumped up for the Asian Games where she will be a top contender given her recent form.advertisementShixian is the defending champion, and the fact that Sindhu has denied her the world title twice will not be lost on the Chinese team.Sindhu has been able to instill fear in the minds of the Chinese players. India has so far won seven bronze medals in badminton at the Asian Games and with both Sindhu and Saina Nehwal in fray, expectations will be high for a better medal this time. However, Saina, who has beaten Chinese players in the past, has struggled against them recently. Sindhu has been playing nonstop this year and has appeared in 14 tournaments. It remains to be seen how much she has left in the tank. She was one of the top performers when India won the bronze medal at the Uber Cup team championships in New Delhi. Physically, Sindhu has improved leaps and bounds which has resulted in her winning several long matches this year. Katee Sackhoff Wants You To Be A Hero For Dogs

first_imgClutching her pup, Vargas, a star-spangled Katee Sackhoff flies to the rescue in a new comic book–style PETA ad that proclaims, “When the Heat Gets Too Much, Be a Hero and Rescue Dogs From Hot Cars.”Katee Sackhoff on Dogs in Hot CarsIn an exclusive video interview with PETA, the Battlestar Galactica and Longmire star shares why dogs should never be left in hot cars. “In under 15 minutes, an animal can succumb to brain damage, and within 15 minutes, they can die,” she says. “And it doesn’t matter if you’re parked in the shade, if you have the windows cracked, if you leave them water. It doesn’t matter. You’ve left your animal in an oven.”That’s why Sackhoff urges anyone who spots an animal in danger to write down the license plate number, try to find the animal’s guardian, call the authorities, and, if necessary, remove the animal from the vehicle. “I would break into a car — I’ve seen people do it before,” she says. “It’s no different than the fire department going into your home when your dog is stuck inside if there’s a fire in your house.”This year alone, PETA has already received reports of 41 dogs who have died after being left alone in cars, even on relatively mild days: On a 78-degree day, the temperature inside a parked car can soar to 100 degrees in just minutes. On a 90-degree day, interior temperatures can reach as high as 109 degrees in less than 10 minutes.last_img read more

Heres A Timetable For When Knicks Fans Should Run Out Of Patience

Heres A Timetable For When Knicks Fans Should Run Out Of Patience

By any standard, the New York Knicks’ 2014-15 season — team President Phil Jackson’s first at the helm — has been an unmitigated disaster. It’s a fact that Jackson himself couldn’t avoid acknowledging in a message he issued to fans (particularly season-ticket holders) this week. “While I know this has been a challenging season for our team on the court, I can also tell you that everyone in the organization is working tirelessly to get our Knicks back to a place where we are once again competing at the highest level,” Jackson said.In the message, Jackson requested that fans be patient as the team works on its long-term plans. (“I ask that you remain optimistic and hope you will join us on our continued journey as we build a team that once again reflects the spirit of being a New York Knick.”) But what should Jackson’s rebuilding timetable look like? The legendary former coach signed a five-year deal last March. Given the particulars of the 2013-14 Knicks team he inherited (their average age, Simple Rating System scores relative to the league and the Eastern Conference, and the wins above replacement of their top player), how quickly should Knicks fans have expected Jackson to turn things around? To answer that question, I ran a series of logistic regressions using every non-playoff NBA team since the league expanded to 27 teams in 1989-90, estimating the likelihood of a team like the Knicks eventually returning to the postseason and reaching various SRS milestones within the five years of Jackson’s contract. These probabilities should serve as a rough guideline for how quickly the Knicks should have expected to return to respectability when Jackson came on, and when patience with Jackson should start to wear thin if the Knicks continue to languish. In some ways, Jackson is already far behind schedule. Based on historical trends, we’d expect 68 percent of Knicks-like teams to return to the playoffs within one season. (Instead, New York is currently 19.5 games out of the last playoff spot in a weak Eastern Conference.) But Jackson has also described his “ultimate goal” as bringing an NBA title back to New York after a 42-season drought, and to do that, a team typically has to be better than just a fringe playoff qualifier. The 25th percentile NBA championship team since the 1976 ABA-NBA merger had an SRS around 5 — a qualification that only five teams in 2014-15 met (after rounding up). That’s a level of performance our model says the Knicks are unlikely to attain, even within five years. But there was a 50 percent chance that the Knicks would reach the tier right below that, with an SRS of 3, by the end of Jackson’s contract. And progress toward that goal might be best judged three seasons in; while we’d expect a Knicks-like team to post an SRS of 3 within two seasons less than a third of the time, the probability of checking off that milestone within three seasons was 44 percent. In other words, while the Knicks have been absolutely awful this season, it’s still too early to ignore Jackson’s pleas for patience if building a contending team is the goal. We probably won’t really know what kind of progress he’s made in that direction for another couple of seasons. read more
