Damning Kane says Spurs have not progressed in five years after Olympiakos slip

first_imgHARRY KANE says Tottenham are making the same mistakes now as they did when Mauricio Pochettino first took charge in 2014.The Spurs striker delivered a damning verdict on his manager and team after they threw away a 2-0 lead in their Champions League opener at Olympiakos on Wednesday night.2 Harry Kane has slammed Tottenham after their awful Olympiakos drawCredit: ReutersKane, 26, said: “That’s the hard part to get your head around because we’re not young any more, we’re not inexperienced. We’ve played in a big games for club and country.”I can see why the manager is frustrated because he’s been here for six years now and we’re still making similar mistakes to the ones we were in his first year.“We’ve got to find a way to get around it, improve and get better. That’s all we can try to do.”Pochettino ripped into his players after the 2-2 draw, accusing them of lacking fight and not following his game plan.Kane said: “The game was frustrating. We didn’t play well to begin with but we found ourselves 2-0 up with two good goals and away from home that’s a great position.“After that we started to play a little bit better, but obviously conceding a goal before half-time killed the momentum.“At half-time, the gaffer said the players need to respect their positions more, whether it’s staying wider or not everyone coming into to try to get the ball. We tried to do that.ACCA WITH LADBROKES Pick up a whole load of acca features to help you land the big one“I don’t think we did it particularly well all game to be honest.“It was a frustrating game. Anytime you’re 2-0 up away from home, especially in the Champions League, you expect to go on to win.“It’s hard because we’ve been here before. It’s disappointing because we started last year’s campaign disappointingly, and we know it takes a lot of hard work and energy to get back to the top of the group.“We obviously play Bayern, a very tough opponent, next and that’s the frustrating part. At 2-0 up if we see it through to half-time it’s probably a different game.“That’s something we’ve got to work on and improve on.“I don’t doubt the mentality of the team. We’ve come through a lot in the last few years and last year reaching the Champions League final after being down and out in the group.“But a bit more maturity in those situations would help.”SECOND-HALF SLUMPKane’s penalty and Lucas Moura screamer had put Tottenham 2-0 up on the half-hour mark against the run of play. But Daniel Podence pulled a goal back for Olympiakos just before the break before Mathieu Valbuena netted another spot kick in the second half to earn the Greeks a point they fully deserved. It was the second time in 17 days Tottenham had tossed away a 2-0 goal lead after doing the same in their 2-2 draw in the North London derby against Arsenal at the Emirates on September – when they also conceded just before half-time.Kane admitted: “I am not quite sure how it happened and how Olympiakos got through so easily.”But especially away from home in the Champions League, you have to knit together, make sure you don’t concede one way or another.”Whether that’s being more compact, going a bit more direct and seeing out the clock or something else.“Even second half, we had opportunities to score if the decision making was better in the final third. It’s something we have to improve on.”Olympiakos extended their unbeaten run in all competitions to NINETEEN matches dating back to February, but celebrated the draw like it was a victory.2MORE SPURS STORIESHARRY ALL FOUR ITKane admits Spurs must win EIGHT games to rise into Champions League spotGossipALL GONE PETE TONGVertonghen wanted by host of Italian clubs as long Spurs spell nears endBELOW PARRSpurs suffer blow with Parrott to miss Prem restart after appendix operationPicturedSHIRT STORMNew Spurs 2020/21 home top leaked but angry fans slam silver design as ‘awful”STEP BY STEP’Jose fears for players’ welfare during restart as stars begin ‘pre-season’KAN’T HAVE THATVictor Osimhen keen on Spurs move but only if they sell Kane this summerYOU KAN DO ITKlinsmann quit Spurs to win trophies but says Kane’s better off stayingTURBULENT PAIRINGDrogba and Mido had mid-flight brawl after stewardess prank went wrongGossipSPURRED ONTottenham table contract offer for Bayern Munich’s teenage starlet Taylor BoothExclusivePASS THE TESTEngland’s NRL-based stars urge bosses to make room for a Test this yearThat highlights how big a scalp Tottenham have become in this competition after reaching the final last season.Kane said: “We know how much effort it took to get to the final last year and now everyone sees us as a team that can get to the final, so we have to perform even better in high pressure situations and high pressure games.“Teams are going to want to beat us and put that on their season. All Blacks face Springbok litmus test

All Blacks face Springbok litmus test

first_imgAt the start of the international season Springbok rugby was at an all-time low.2016 was the worst season in South Africa’s history. They won just four of their twelve games, were humbled by their heaviest defeat to New Zealand in 95 years, and didn’t win a single test away from home. They fell to their first ever home defeat to Ireland and their first ever loss to Argentina in South America.Fast forward and they’re now nipping at the heels of the unbeaten All Blacks in the Rugby Championship standings, following two big wins over the Pumas and last week’s draw with Australia.Coach Allister Coetzee, who kept his job despite his dismal first year in charge, believes 2017 has been a new beginning for Springbok rugby.”The big thing is the team environment has changed completely. The big factor was the time that we could spend together. We’ve had some proper training camps this year.”He said the players are a much more unified band of brothers and he say’s that’s being reflected the field. The All Blacks coach Steve Hansen shares the sentiments. “They seem to be incredibly tight with each other so they’re obviously building something there from a cultural point of view and that will make them more dangerous. They’ve changed their attack coach, they’ve changed their defence coach so there’s two new people in there doing pretty good work by the look of it.”Albany is the most South African corner of the country, the braai will be burning on Saturday night with Springbok supporters heading to the test en mass.Coetzee is grateful for the expat energy, but he knows anything less than a near perfect performance will result in defeat.”You always know in the last 20 minutes they score at least 20 plus points, so you’ve got to play and be at your best for the full 80 minutes.”The respect is mutual, with assistant coach Ian Foster describing the game as the All Blacks biggest test of 2017.”Your mind conjures up some of the great games of the past and the great rivalries and this is no different. For us this is a pretty special game.”You’ve got to take the hat off to the way they’ve rebounded from last year and just changed quite dramatically within a very short time period. Clearly they’ve got a youthful team that really look like they want to play with each other and that’s a dangerous beast.”If the All Blacks can tame the beast in Albany, they’ll all but quash any hopes the others had of knocking them off their Rugby Championship throne.last_img read more

Casemiro: “It doesn’t matter Atlético or Barcelona in the final”

first_imgRival. Valencia is a very hard team. Today was a rematch for us. Because already in Mestalla we almost lost. The idea was to leave from the first minute to press on his court. We generate many opportunities, but the important thing is that it was won. We think about the final. “Midfielders in the lineup. “Zidane asked for a lot of movement. With Luka he asked for a lot of position exchange. That’s how the second goal came. Things were done as the coach wanted. No matter who scores the goal, the important thing is to win.Without Karim. “We know the kind of scorer he is. He is supporting us. It is important that we all help and play for the team.”Zidane: “It has given me confidence and self confidence. The partners too. But highlight the Mr., who is joining us as a team. Trust us and we in him. ”There is more talk now about Valverde than about Pogba: “Calm down, I try to enjoy my opportunities, when I wear this shirt. If in the future he has to come, I will learn many things from him. Today I try to enjoy. ” Carvajal: “We have worn them out”Sensations: “The team has been plugged in from the beginning and we have achieved the goal. Now we must focus on the final.”Tactic: “We have rolled out and have noticed. When they have stolen they had many meters to our goal and we have worn them out. The team has lost few balls and has had a lot of control of the ball.”Goals: “The whole team has the capacity to score goals. We are very close to defend and we can see it. The sensations are very good and hopefully the streak continues.”Final: “We are prepared for the final. We must rest and eat well to reach the final the best possible conditions. Winning the Super Cup would be the best birthday present.” Match Analysis: “It was a totally controlled game, we went out with the purpose of having the ball and we have done it. That was the strategy and everything we had planned went well. Now, to think about the next game. We are in the final and see who it’s our turn”.Play with five media: “We may have a bit of depth with five midfielders, but we have had control of the ball. It has been a game to prove that too. We have shown that we can play like this against a difficult team like Valencia, which is always complicated. We had full control of the game, which is the most important thing for us. “Rival in the final: “It doesn’t matter. We know that both are very difficult. The one who touches us we have to plan well and win. We know that the next game is more difficult, always the next one is more difficult.”Support in the stands: “We have had a great love since we arrived on the first day. The affection of this club is immense. We have to thank everyone, to Arabia, we have felt at home without a doubt. Today we have noticed a lot that we are the team more great in the world. Even outside Madrid it shows. You have to congratulate them too. “Valverde: “Today was a rematch for us”Balance. “It was a tough game. We took a wide difference and relaxed a bit. It’s a bit normal. The weather and the game were a bit harsh. We were a little tough, but we were running for 90 minutes.” The reason for their laughter before the interview: “I have also been doping, as against Getafe, but hey. It is a draw and it has touched me, we must do it. It always touches me, I always say that it is my turn.”last_img read more
